Miep Gies dies aged 100

I was saddened to read this news today. Miep was an incredible lady and without her contribution to Anne Frank's life and story we would never have known what went on in the secret annexe.

Here is the article in the British newspaper, The Guardian.

That's so sad :( I always wished I could have met such a wonderful lady.

Miep Gies
As a young American girl I received my first copy of The Diary of Anne Frank when I was 10. She was in inspiration to me of hope, faith and love. But I was also struck by the dedication of those who at their own risk, cared for these people to give them a chance. Miep Gies (and all men and women who hid away Jews during WWII) should be sainted. When I visited Holland in February 2009 my Dutch boyfriend took me to the Anne Frank Museum (a place on my HAVE TO DO LIST). At the end of the tour was her diary. And while he carefully read to me out of it, I closed my eyes and imagined myself back there. What Miep went through, and how insightful she was to save that diary.
